All Aboard!

This is not how I imagined this blog to start, but I’ve now come to terms of the nature of this business.

Welcome to Inside the Train!

This is a blog that will attempt to cover the Trump campaign on campus from now until Election day. The nature of the blog will initially be sporadic, but hopefully the flow will progress to routine updates as more organizing takes place. So far, information about the student organizations for Trump are so scarce, that I’m literally running around campus to find the room for this meeting. So far, I haven’t found it. I’m lurking around the hallways of the Willard building to no success trying to find people wearing “Make America Great Again” hats, but so far, nothing.

However, here is what I do know: We are for Trump is currently called the Bull Moose Party at Penn State. For you history buffs, that’s the nickname the temporary Progressive third party was formed for Theodore Roosevelt after he was passed over as the Republican nominee for William Howard Taft (see, we did have really dirty politics before!).

Anyway, We are for Trump has the unusual name due to a denial by Penn State Union and Student Activities since the organization does not have authorization from the Trump campaign to use the word “Trump” in its name, according to The Daily Collegian. The club disputes the denial.

In addition to this kerfuffle, the organization has a rift with the College Republicans, who passed on endorsing their party’s nominee, according to the Collegian.

I suspect that the reason they aren’t at the meeting today may be due to the College Democrats and College Republicans debate tonight at the HUB. If so, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be there. If so, I’ll have it covered. For now though I’ll leave you with this stat: 31. That’s the number of tweets the We Are for Trump twitter account have tweeted today, and it’s only 7 p.m.

Stay on the train!

Update: Several Trump supporters showed up to the event, some of which were associated with We Are for Trump. However, with the exception to a female Trump fan giving an inarticulate question on the minimum wage, the event went without many fireworks.
